About Me

At age five I was riding at The Red Barn in the desert of Eastern Washington, in Richland.  There was a gal there who was always talking about the feel of the feet.  The deep sand of the hills really helped us pick up that feel.  When we moved to California, I began riding with Sandra McKeon and Vicki Olson at Carousel Stables in Concord, California.  Sandra and Vicki were superb trainers and coached me to some great wins and year end championships, medal finals and an Olympic trial.  During college, I began starting colts for farmers and training jumpers.  In 1989 I rode with Tom Dorrance and Ray Hunt, and they changed how I teach and ride forever.  I felt like I was in Kindergarten.

In 1994 I earned my Masters in Teaching from George Fox University in Newberg, OR and currently teach in public school.  My training as a teacher helps me a lot in the arena.  My teaching is about understanding the horse, having fun, getting positive reinforcement of achievements and the encouragement of the ability of both horse and rider to figure things together.

As of December 2016, clinics and lessons are on your horse at your facility.
